My name is Sigal Rubin and the most basic thing you should know about me is that…I’m a mom! Currently, I am a well-rested mom, but that wasn’t always the case. As my husband and I began our parenting journey in 2018, I knew our lives would change forever. I also remember all the unsolicited advice I continued receiving while pregnant including the most dreaded one of all - “Sleep as much as you can now because you will never sleep well again!” I like my sleep! That couldn’t be true, could it? When my son was born, I had no idea what to do since I was a new mom. I had all the common fears that most new moms experience and would wake up at the slightest sound he would make. For two months it seemed that dreaded and unsolicited advice was true! But then we decided something had to give and we all needed to sleep so I put him on a daily schedule and everything fell into place. We were getting uninterrupted nighttime sleep AND a consistent nap schedule. It was magical.
Our beautiful daughter was born in 2020 and like so many babies, suffered from colic. Here we go again with the sleepless nights, the inconsistent naps, and now added on were the screams of a colicky baby! I remember my husband asking me if we had it too easy with our son and that’s why it would be harder this time around. I stated we should attempt to put her on a schedule like we did with our son and maybe it would help, so that weekend we put her on a strict daytime and nighttime schedule. It worked. Magic again! She slept through the night, thrived on her daytime routine, and has not had any colic or purple crying periods since that day.
But is it magic? Of course not, but I started realizing the essential interconnection between sleep, development, and behavior. Family and close friends started asking for help with their babies and I loved being able to see the change in their children and families. So, I decided I wanted to help other families get the sleep they deserve. After extensive research and hard work, I was certified through the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting and have been helping families get better sleep ever since. It was one of the best decisions I have made and I know that together we can find the appropriate sleep solutions for your family!
